Maxime Caru
Présentation
Dr. Maxime Caru, PhD, PhD is a postdoctoral scholar, exercise physiologist in pediatric oncology and research psychologist.
I simultaneously completed two PhDs at the University of Montreal and Paris-Nanterre University (from 2016 to 2020), one in exercise physiology and one in psychology. During my PhDs, I focused on the long-term adverse effects of cancer treatments on physiological and psychological outcomes in childhood cancer survivors. My curiosity brought me to better understand the association between physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness levels, and parameters in physiology, epidemiology, genetics, cardiac electrophysiology and psychology. I also demonstrated that physical activity in pediatric oncology is effective, safe and accessible both during treatments and in aftercare to better help children with cancer and survivors. To reach this goal, I participated in the development of a multidisciplinary program in pediatric oncology with physical activity, nutritional and psychological support.
After completing my PhDs, my research focused on the late effects of cancer treatments on the cardiac health of childhood cancer survivors in order to improve my knowledge and expertise in cardio-oncology pediatric. Since then, I have also continued my research in exercise and pediatric oncology where I focused on health change behaviors through the integration of exercise within and beyond standard care in children, adolescents and young adults with cancer.
